Emotional Negotiations:

How to Collaborate with Difficult People

Award-winning Yale University faculty member, Dr. Daylian Cain, presents "Emotional Negotiations: How to Collaborate with Difficult People."  [2 Credits]

Good deal-making and good working relationships involve learning about the other side. Experienced salespeople know this principle, but they often approach it incorrectly. Yes, we are looking for “buttons that move people,” but more importantly, we want to discover buttons that we are in a relatively good position to press. This session will turn your leading questions into genuine questions that help you discover the right things about your clients and co-workers. Understanding oneself and figuring people out are key for better negotiation skills, better partnerships, and to foster positive employee and labor relations, enhanced productivity, and better retention.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn how to figure people out & improve your negotiation skills and working relationships.
  • Learn how much to hide vs. reveal in a negotiation.
  • Learn why one should be more curious about even “odd emotional concerns” on the other side.
  • Learn which contentious issues are better discussed first vs. saved for last.
